Robert Maisey.

How many times do your thoughts, feelings and decisions get in the way of the person you want to be?

We are not naturally self-aware and everyone needs regular mental health support to stay at their best.

And only if you are at your best can you give your best.

ADAPTABILITY IS A HUMAN SUPERPOWER

I am an easygoing, slightly disagreeable, sometimes funny, always understanding mental health consultant. I will be very straight with you, without judgment. More importantly, I promise to care about you, your organization, it's stakeholders, and the process.

I had a less than desirable childhood which left me with an aversion to non-functional family units, bullies and a tendency for hypervigilance. In my teens I was incredibly fortunate to stumble across a few key adults who showed me the power of choice and the strength of motivation.  I enjoyed 20 years of trading lumber, building businesses, raising my children (as a home dad) and following my passions and hobbies.

When I looked back on my hobbies, I realized I have always been a coach whether in white-water kayaking, scuba diving, baseball, ice hockey or underwater hockey. I have coached youth, adult, and national teams with equal enjoyment. In both my business and coaching environments I focus on building stronger people and better teams through understanding that without a great attitude, a fair culture, and good intent no team does well.

Over the last few years I have made an easy transition to professional coaching and find that my childhood taught me two key principles: not to judge and always forgive. My hypervigilance grew into understanding, empathy and vision; my disagreeability helps me show others alternative views to support reframing.

Our brains are constantly creating stories to match our beliefs; if you have developed negative or powerless beliefs the skewed story will continue until we make the choice to begin the work to change ourselves.

In some ways I am a performance coach, in other ways I am a mental health coach but in most cases it becomes the same. I have a skill in helping people understand physical and mental health and the small steps each of us can take to become the person we dream to be.

If your people are struggling, so is your company.
