SELF-AWARENESS, ADAPTABILITY AND BEHAVIOURAL CHANGE
|
During my formative years, I experienced a challenging childhood that left me with a deep undertanding of dysfunctional family units and a dislike of bullies or even, anyone taking from others without their willing consent. This tumultuous upbringing also fostered a propensity for hypervigilance. However, luckily during my teenage years I crossed paths with a few remarkable adults who showed me the profound lessons of choice and the formidable strength of motivation.
For the next two decades, my life journey led me down diverse paths. My chosen field of commodity lumber trading expanded into entrepreneurial endeavors while simultaneously embracing the role of a stay-at-home dad and passionately pursuing various hobbies and interests.
Upon reflecting on my lifelong pursuits, I came to a profound realization; Whether I was navigating treacherous white-water rapids, exploring the depths of the ocean through scuba diving, or coaching teams in sports like ice hockey, baseball, and underwater hockey, I had always assumed the role of a coach. This inherent coaching spirit transcended age and skill level, as I found joy in mentoring youth, adults, and even playing on and later coaching national teams.
In both business and coaching my central focus was unwavering — the development of stronger individuals and more cohesive teams. I firmly believe that the bedrock of any successful collective effort lies in fostering a good attitude, cultivating a fair and inclusive culture, and nurturing benevolent intentions. This philosophy became the cornerstone of my approach, whether I was in the boardroom or on the field.
Over the past few years, I have seamlessly transitioned into the realm of professional coaching. It dawned on me that my tumultuous childhood had instilled three invaluable principles within me: the art of non-judgment, the logic of personal accountability, and the virtue of forgiveness. What was once hypervigilance had evolved into a deep understanding of human nature, an unwavering empathy for others, and a visionary perspective. My innate tendency to question and challenge the status quo has became a valuable tool for helping individuals see alternative viewpoints and facilitating the process of reframing their perspectives.
Our minds are perpetually crafting narratives that align with our beliefs. When negative or disempowering beliefs take root, these skewed narratives persist until we make a conscious choice to embark on the journey of self-transformation.
In many ways I've become a practitioner of behavioral change but it seamlessly intertwines with my role as a mental health coach. My unique skill set empowers me to guide individuals towards a profound understanding of both their physical and mental well-being. I assist them in taking incremental steps toward realizing their fullest potential and becoming the person they aspire to be.
In essence, I am a coach who believes in the transformative power of choice, empathy, and the unwavering commitment to building a positive, inclusive, and nurturing environment where individuals and teams can thrive. My life's journey has equipped me with the tools to guide others in rewriting the narratives that govern their lives and in turn, help them become truly remarkable.
